The Department of Labour’s Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) branch will be conducting inspections, to ensure employers adhere to the National Minimum wage.
Inspections will start in February 2019, the Wholesale and Retail market will be under the spotlight as it was identified as a problematic sector regarding the wage implementation.
The department will be using its Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) specialist inspectors to enforce the act.
Non-compliance will result in a fine. The fine is calculated per employee as the greater amount of double the value of the underpayment or double the employee’s monthly wage.
