Human Capital Management (HCM) “Cloud Based” Technology

July 31, 2018

“Cloud HCM”- there is a rapid trend abroad and even in South Africa of a new generation of business owners, organisational leaders and professionals having touch points within an employee’s life cycle. These stakeholders are reviewing their technology utilised as tools or catalyst within in their organisations and aiming to identify more efficient and effective options.

Young blood is more focused on what functionality, automation and mitigation of risk a system can provide rather than a legacy name in the market.

Legacy brands and systems will still remain part of the profession for the immediate future because choosing your partner and the process of implementation is something not taken lightly and differs from organisation to organisation and the perception of risk involved.

A wider and more knowledgeable base of skills in the industry of software as a service and revolutionary technological mechanisms everyday seems to deliver more modern and more advanced enhancements to the cloud based HCM industry.

When online or cloud based HCM solutions are discussed and deliberated within the local domain the most common discussion points to surface are the following:

Why the cloud? How reliable and secure is the cloud? Do I really need it?

In a nutshell to the above…. What else?

Moving business processes to the cloud by the means of software as a service enables numerous efficiencies, integrations and contingencies to any small or corporate organisation. Some immediate benefits are:

  • “Cloud HCM” directly translates to work anywhere at any time. Away with the limitations of “8 to 5” but rather the focus on output and deliverables achieved within a defined period.

  • Sharing of architectural and system maintenance cost, be part of community that has best of bread system architecture and always in front of the curve of change.

  • By default Disaster recovery.

  • “Communal compliance” central upgrades to your application gives organisations an additional level of comfort that Legislative changes are applied centrally.

  • Bring your own device, minimise IT infrastructures cost and IT support. “Cloud HCM” should be utilised from any device. No more worries if your hardware devices crash or becomes unusable.

  • Utilising “apps” as a tool – business processes can now be broken down into “apps” yes! Those on your phone that a toddler are able to navigate through with their eyes closed.

Let’s look at these success stories:

  • Uber:

Facilitates the complete process from joining a commuter with a means of transport and are the largest taxi company yet owns no vehicles

  • Facebook:

Joining friends, family and people with common interests together and being the most extensive information hub, creates no content themselves.

  • Amazon:

Largest retailer and yet they own no stores.

  • Netflix:

Biggest movie house, with no actual theatre.

  • Airbnb:

Largest accommodation providers and they don’t own any real estate.

What do all of these companies have in common?

“Cloud based technology”; a platform and a service being part of a community where a culture of symbiosis is the result.

Ultimately what I am trying to say is that there’s a trend where the world is moving to the “cloud”.

The question that you need to ask yourself: “Are you ready to convert?”
