A general notice was released through a Government Gazette on the 14th of July 2022, notifying employers that the Compensation Fund will be conducting site visits and audits to establish effective registration and compliance to the Compensation for Occupational Injuries & Diseases Act “COIDA” or “the Act”. Employers, both registered and unregistered, including domestic employers, are there for encouraged to ensure effective registration and compliance to COIDA. The Act requires all employers, who are operating a business with one or more employees, to register with the Compensation Commissioner and to provide all particulars in connection thereof. Further to this, employers are required to keep records of earnings and particulars of employees, and to produce these on request. All employers must provide the Commissioner with an accurate return of earnings on an annual basis and non-compliance may lead to an offense in terms of COIDA.
